Whilst I like to travel on a budget and save money where I can, one place I don’t scrimp on is good quality travel shoes. I have been stuck before in my early days of travelling, wearing cheap thongs that fall apart on me as I walk down the street somewhere in the middle of the world.
I personally prefer to wear sandals or thongs rather than covered in shoes. I find the best shoes for this is are Merrell shoes. My first pair of Merrell shoes lasted me over 10 years and in fact the soles are still in perfect condition – just the tops are looking a bit scruffy. These were great for everyday wear – from walking around town, to the beach or some short hikes. Even out to dinner at night. Basically good for everything except for long hikes. My old Merrell shoes walked on all sorts of terrain – beaches, mountains, streets, water you name it they went there and they were reliable and comfortable.
In preparation for our next trip to Vietnam I bought myself a new pair of Merrell shoes. I did try out a few different brands – but seriously as soon as you put on the Merrell shoes they feel so light, yet they have a very durable soles – great for all sorts of terrain. I chose the Merrell Terran Strap II Sandal, not the cheapest pair of shoes at $160 AUD – but if I get another 10 years out these – then that’s a bargain in my eyes.
My 10 year old Merrell shoes and my new ones
A couple of things I love about these shoes:
- Soft rubber sole – makes the whole shoe feel super light on your feet;
- Probably my favourite things is velcro hook and loop closure system for quick adjustability – so they are super quick and easy to put on – no messing around with buckles;
- Breathable mesh lining;
- Microfiber soft footbed;
- Remember me foam footbed cradles the foot for soft all day comfort; and
- Great range of awesome funky colours – I mean seriously who doesn’t love the hot orange colour!!!
So for me the answer is easy – the best travel shoes are Merrell shoes.
