Where to stay in Bath?
Given all the main tourist attractions are in the city centre – this is where it’s recommended you stay. The closer you can stay to the town centre, the less walking you and the kids will need to do.
However, when it comes to Bath hotels in city centre – they tend not to be the best child friendly hotels in Bath (because they often can’t accommodate a family in a room) and they’re certainly not the cheapest hotels Bath has.
Although you will find some reasonably affordable apartments in the city centre – which in many cases is better than a family hotel in Bath anyway. These apartments come with kitchens, usually 1 or 2 bedrooms and often a washing machine too – so you can catch up on washing.
The downside with staying in an apartment is you don’t tend to get any additional facilities you’d expect from Bath city hotels – such as a bar or restaurant.
Parking is also limited or often unavailable at even the best hotels Bath has. So in these cases, if you’ve driven into town, you’ll need to leave your car at one of the car parks in the area. If you want one of the Bath hotels with parking, you’ll need to consider one of the family hotels near Bath on the outskirts of town.
At the end of the day, provided your accommodation is within walking distance of the city centre, any accommodation you choose will be fine.

After hours of research and spending some time exploring Bath’s city centre, I’ve shortlisted 10 of the Bath best hotels and apartments for families.
These options are among the best Bath budget hotels and apartments for families and are all in a good location so you can easily reach all the popular tourist attractions.
Holiday Inn Express
You can’t go past a Holiday Inn Express when travelling, they’re generally well maintained, include free extras and are well priced – with this particular Holiday Inn being one of the cheap hotels Bath has on offer.
Whilst this is one of the Bath cheap hotels, in fact it’s the cheapest in this guide, it is one of the furthest from town, around a 15-minute walk – which isn’t too far for the adults, yet may just be pushing it if you have kids in tow. If you need to utilise this for day trips into town, there is paid parking on site.
Rooms are contemporary yet compact and can accommodate a family of 4 in a double bed and a sofa bed. You’ll receive free Wi-Fi and coffee/tea facilities in the room. Whilst there are not loads of in-room facilities, you get a free breakfast, which is great for the whole family to fill up on before a day of sightseeing.
And if you want to ensure dinner time is easy, you can come back to the Holiday Inn restaurant for some family-friendly meals, including pasta, burgers and pizzas and some adult-friendly beverages from the bar.
What’s to love?
Having on site parking (although at an extra cost) is super convenient for those driving into Bath. Plus, breakfast included is a nice extra too.
What’s not to love?
A small hotel room and a 15 minute walk into town is not ideal – although given this is the cheapest option in this guide, it may well be worth the compromise.
Summary
If you’re after affordable Bath hotels, cheap doesn’t necessarily mean nasty. The Holiday Inn Express is one of the budget hotels in Bath that can accommodate families – albeit a little bit squashy and further afield from town, yet with contemporary rooms and great on site facilities.

Hiding Space – Trim Street Apartments
Location is one of the biggest drawcards at the Hiding Space – Trim Street Apartments. Tucked behind the main shopping area in the centre of town, you’ll be minutes from the Roman Baths and within walking distance of all the major tourist attractions – which is great as there is no parking at this hotel.
The apartments are super stylish; having been restored in 2019, they are modern yet retain some original features, creating an eclectic place to stay. The one bedroom apartments are a good size for a family of 4 who will sleep in a double bed and sofa bed.
The apartments have the convenience of a fully equipped kitchen, including a fridge, oven, stovetop, microwave, kettle and toaster. There is a dining table, all the kitchenware you need to enjoy a family meal, and a dishwasher to clean up afterwards. Milk, tea, sugar, coffee, and a Nespresso Coffee Machine are also provided.
Even though this family friendly hotel Bath has apartment style accommodation, there is still housekeeping available, luggage storage and a concierge service. Besides this, there are no other facilities on site, but you are in the town centre, so everything is on your doorstep.
What’s to love?
Location, location! This apartment is in the city centre, just minutes from the Roman Baths. You can easily walk to all the tourist attractions from here.
What’s not to love?
For a family hotel in Bath not to have any facilities on site, such as a restaurant or cafe, could be a turn off for some families. However, the hotel is centrally located, so this should not be a deterrent.
Summary
If you’re after space and style, you can’t go past the Hiding Space – Trim Street Apartments. With loads of room to spread out within such lovely apartments, you have everything Bath offers on your doorstep… you may just not want to leave.

North Parade Apartment
If you like to be centrally located when you travel, the North Parade Apartment is worth checking out. Situated smack bang in the middle of the city, you have all the tourist attractions on your doorstep, including the Roman Baths, which are mere minutes away on foot.
Families of 4 will love this huge 2-bedroom apartment; there is lots of space to spread out, which is great for older kids wanting some alone time and younger kids with an earlier bedtime.
Bedding arrangements include a double bed in one room and 2 singles in the other. There is a fully equipped kitchen which will save you some money with preparing meals in the hotel, as this is not one of the budget hotels Bath has on offer – it is more in the mid-range, so any dollars you can save are worth it.
Rounding out the apartment amenities is a washing machine perfect for those who prefer to travel light and wash on the go, and free Wi-Fi. Like most apartments, there are no on-site facilities such as a restaurant or gym.
What’s to love?
Location, location! This apartment is in the city centre just minutes away from the Roman Baths. You can easily walk to all the tourist attractions from here. Plus you’ve got a spacious 2 bedroom apartment!
What’s not to love?
The price is certainly creeping up there – so hopefully the advantages outweigh this for your family.
Summary
Whilst this is not one of the Bath city centre hotels with parking… you may not need it, as you are literally in the city centre with all the major tourist attractions within walking distance. If space is important to your family when travelling, the North Parade Apartment is huge.

Bath Breaks Apartment
A little bit further afield from the centre of town, the Bath Breaks Apartment is around a 1km level walk to the city centre. Not too far for older kids, but the littlies might get a bit tired, so ensure you have a pram, or there is a car park nearby if you need to drive.
The apartment can accommodate slightly larger families of 5, with a double bed in one room and a double and single bed in the second. There is a bright open plan living area to hang out in and the fully equipped kitchen enables you to prepare meals as you would at home – with an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge and dishwasher.
If you need supplies, there is a great shopping mall down the street with a supermarket, farmers market, and cafes and restaurants if you want the night off cooking. And if you want to catch up on your washing, there is a washing machine in the apartment.
What’s to love?
A 2-bedroom apartment means space for everyone – plus you’ve got a kitchen to prepare meals and even a washing machine to catch up on laundry.
What’s not to love?
It’s a bit of a walk into the centre of town with a 1 km walk – but you’re close to a shopping mall, and the Charlotte Street Car Park is nearby if you bring your own vehicle.
Summary
Cheap Bath hotels city centre located are hard to come by, which is why if you go a little further out, like at the Bath Breaks Apartment, you’re getting one of the great family friendly hotels near Bath that is well priced with loads of amenities.

Bath Circle
The Bath Circle is one of the furthest accommodation options from the centre of town in this guide, however at 1.6km it is certainly still walkable. There’s not a shopping mall in the immediate vicinity; however, there are a few small convenience stores and a pharmacy within a few minutes walk.
Families of 4 are accommodated in a 1-bedroom apartment with a double bed and sofa bed. Some apartments can even accommodate an extra person with an additional single bed supplied.
The kitchen has everything you need to cook a gourmet feast or simple snacks for the whole family. There is an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and even an espresso machine to keep you caffeinated.
The apartments are quite sumptuous with lovely furniture and styling; definitely one of the best hotels near Bath for what you’re paying.
What’s to love?
The ability to sleep large families of up to 5 people is fantastic – plus the price is pretty good for all you get too – an apartment with a kitchen.
What’s not to love?
This is one of the furthest accommodation options from the centre of town. But at 1.6km – it’s still certainly walkable.
Summary
Cheap family hotels in Bath don’t generally accommodate larger families, so if you like to stay in style without the price tag, the Bath Circle is worth looking at.

Duke Street Apartment
The Duke Street Apartment is in a fantastic location – city centre. Only 5 minutes to the Roman Baths and 5 minutes to the nearest train station. Plus, for those who like to eat out, you are on the same block with restaurants serving up Italian, Greek, Spanish, Vegan, and Thai – surely you’ll find something to eat… even for the fussiest of eaters.
Sleeping arrangements cater for families of 4 in a double bed and 2 single beds in the 2 rooms. The living room has a large couch for families to spread out and a small dining table to enjoy meals prepared in the well-equipped kitchen.
The Duke Street apartment is of a classic Georgian style which means the bathroom is equipped with an elegant tub – perfect for bathing littlies when travelling or having a soak yourself.
What’s to love?
Another option in a fantastic location! Just a 5 minute walk to the Roman Baths and also 5 minutes from the train station – so perfect if you’re coming in by rail. Having a spacious 2-bedroom apartment is also not to be sneezed at.
What’s not to love?
Some may not love the traditional internal Georgian styling.
Summary
Child friendly hotels Bath has don’t get much better than a 2-bedroom apartment in the city centre, priced in the mid-range.

Brocks Guest House
Sandwiched between the Royal Cresent and the Circus – from Brocks Guest House you’ll easily be able to tick off a few tourist attractions here. Plus, it’s only 900 metres from the Roman Baths, so you’re really not far from anything here.
This Bath hotel family room can sleep 4 guests in a double bed and 2 single beds. The room is smaller than other hotels in this guide; however, this is one of the budget Bath hotels – so you’ll save money on accommodation.
Rooms are simple but comfortable, with tea/coffee facilities to enjoy a cuppa. If you’ve got little ones, there is a small bathtub for them to wash in… or for you to soak some travel clothes in.
What’s to love?
Beds for the whole family – no one has to share here – plus you’re just metres away from some of Bath’s most popular tourist attractions.
What’s not to love?
A simple hotel room does mean space is at a premium – and you will need to factor in the 10 minute walk to the Roman Baths. But other tourist attractions are just metres away, which is a bonus.

The Hiding Space – is right across the road from 2,000 years of history – we’re talking about the Roman Baths. So if visiting this iconic attraction is on your list, you’ll be the first in line if you stay at this apartment.
Families of 4 are accommodated in 1 bedroom apartments, sleeping in double and sofa beds. The fully equipped kitchen comes with an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle… however, you can ditch the kettle if you’re a coffee lover, as the Hiding Space offers their signature Nespresso Coffee Machine at all their properties, so that you can start your day right.
The apartments are a collection of historic almshouses – so on the outside, you have gorgeous original features such as the archway, yet internally the apartments are modern and fresh.
All the apartments face onto a central courtyard, creating a sanctuary in the heart of the city and also a place for teens to get away from their parents or littlies to have a run around in an enclosed area.
What’s to love?
You’re pretty much next door to the Roman Baths from here – so super easy to be the first ones in line.
What’s not to love?
The price! This is the most expensive accommodation option in this guide.
Summary
The Hiding Space is a stunning boutique hotel chain offering contemporary accommodation. Whilst this particular option is the most expensive in this guide, it does have a super central location going for it.

Brooks Guesthouse
Brooks Guesthouse is a chic boutique B&B, just under a 1km from the Roman Baths. If you’ve driven in, the Charlotte Street Car Park is located just behind the Guesthouse, which charges £15 per day.
Accommodation is offered in hotel rooms within a charming Georgian house. A family of 4 can sleep in one of the rooms in a double bed and 2 single sofa beds – it is a little bit of a squeeze when the sofa beds are out, so keep that in mind if you have older kids. The rooms all have tea/coffee facilities and free Wi-Fi.
The award-winning breakfast will energise the whole family for the day; it is locally sourced and freshly cooked to order – offering a full English Breakfast, Eggs Benedict, Homemade Granola, Organic Yoghurts and loads more choices. If you’re around in the afternoon, you can order a delightful English High Tea. And if you’re peckish throughout the day, there is an Honesty Bar with snacks and beverages.
Whats to love?
Having someone cook a fresh breakfast for you daily sets a great mood for the day.
What’s not to love?
Rooms are a bit of a squeeze, yet there is a guest living room to spread out in when you need extra space.

Wood Street Apartment
Larger families rejoice, the Wood Street Apartment can fit up to 6 guests in a 3-bedroom apartment. Conveniently located only 400 metres from the Roman Baths, the apartment is also surrounded by loads of cafes, bars and restaurants.
At 120 square metres, the apartment is huge, with loads of space to spread out and not be on top of each other… except for in the beds, as each of the 3 bedrooms contains a double bed sleeping 2 guests.
The fully equipped kitchen will have you cooking up a storm, saving money on dining out. And with a coffee machine included too, you could even skip the cafes.
For those with littlies who miss the convenience of baths at home, the Wood Street Apartment has a large standalone tub, perfect for bringing some normality into their lives when travelling.
Talking of normality, there is also a washing machine in the apartment, which means you can catch up on your washing.
What’s to love?
The huge apartment and fabulous location.
What’s not to love?
With all the double bedding options, this could be inconvenient when travelling with older kids who need their space. Plus, this is one of the more expensive properties in this guide.
Summary
The Wood Street Apartment is perfect for your family if you’re after space and in a great location. The 3 separate rooms give everyone a bit of privacy and the large living area is a great hang out space when everyone comes together.
