Where are the Beach Houses?
The Beach Houses is a large 1.3 hectares property, which faces 75 Mile Beach, as well as being surrounded by bushland. The property is located on the east side of the island, just a few metres south of the Eurong resort area. It takes roughly 30 minutes to drive here from Hook Point.
From Beach Houses, it’s just a 5 minute walk into the main area of Eurong. Here you will find a grocery store, the Eurong Resort which has a bar and restaurant and a bakery.
The property is fully fenced, so you’ll have peace of mind that the kids are well protected from dingos.
Accommodation Options at Beach Houses
All of the houses are three bedrooms which can sleep up to six people. Most come with a queen bed in two of the bedrooms and two singles in the third bedroom. Each bedroom features a ceiling fan. For smaller families that don’t require all three bedrooms, you have the option of booking the house as just two bedrooms.
Here is an overview of the different accommodation options at the Beach Houses:
Beachfront Houses
For families wanting beach and ocean views, then one of the beachfront houses would be a perfect choice. These single level houses are located at the front of the property and have great views across 75 Mile Beach and the Pacific Ocean.
To make the most of the ocean views, the beachfront houses come with a living area with huge glass windows which open out to a wrap around balcony. Other facilities include two bathrooms, laundry (with washing machine and dryer), a fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher) and carport.
Rates start at $350 per night for a 3 bedroom house for 6 people.
Ocean View Houses
Scattered throughout the property are multi storey houses which provide great views across the property and the ocean.
To make the most of the ocean views, these houses come with a living area which opens out to a spacious balcony. Other facilities include two bathrooms, laundry (with washing machine and dryer), a fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher) and carport.
Rates start at $325 per night for a 3 bedroom house for 6 people.
Poolside Houses
For families that plan to spend a fair bit of time in the swimming pool, I think one of the poolside houses is perfect. All of these houses are single level properties which surround the pool – you can even watch the kids swim from your verandah!
The poolside houses come with a living area which opens out to verandah which looks over the pool area. Other facilities include two bathrooms, laundry (with washing machine and dryer), a fully equipped kitchen (with dishwasher) and carport.
Rates start at $300 per night for a 3 bedroom house for 6 people.
Garden Spa Houses
The Garden Spa Houses are single level houses scattered throughout the gardens. These houses are exactly the same as the other single level properties however they feature a two person spa in the master bedrooms.

Facilities at Beach Houses
The Beach Houses don’t offer a great deal in terms of facilities on site – but that’s ok because you’re going to be out all day exploring anyway. However, when you do return after a full day of exploring all the great places on K’gari, you’ll be pleased to know that there is an awesome swimming pool waiting for you.
As well as the main swimming pool, right next to it is a smaller wading pool which also has a heated spa.
The swimming pool area also has multiple undercover areas with BBQs, tables and chairs. This is perfect for those family BBQs – while the parents are cooking the food – they can be supervising the kids in the pool.
Also for the tiny kids, there is a small playground.
Getting to Beach Houses
It’s relatively straightforward to get to K’gari via one of the barges. You can choose to take either the Inskip ferry or one of the two ferries that operate from River Heads.
The most popular barge to take across to K’gari is the Manta Ray Barge, often called the Inskip or Rainbow Beach ferry. From here it is just a 10 minute journey across to the southern tip of the island at Hook Point.
This boat to the island operates daily from 6 am to 5.30 pm. There is no need to book this car ferry to K’gari and there is no set timetable, the barges just cross the strait continually during this time. During peak times, 2-3 barges operate. Prices start at $130 return.
If you’re getting to K’gari from Hervey Bay, it will most likely be easiest to take one of River Heads ferries. River Heads is just a short 20 minute drive south of Hervey Bay.
From River Heads, there are two different ferry operators either the Kingfisher Bay Ferry which arrives at the Kingfisher Bay Resort Jetty or the Fraser Venture which arrives at Wanggolba Creek – both on the western side of the island. Prices for either ferry start at $180 return.
The Kingfisher Bay Ferry barge times to the island are 6.45 am, 9 am, 1 pm and 3.30 pm daily. For the return journey, the barges leave daily at 7.50 am, 10.30 am, 2.30 pm and 5 pm. The trip takes 45 minutes.
The Fraser Venture ferry times to the island are either 8.30 am and 3 pm daily. For the return journey, the ferry leaves daily at 10 am and 4.30 pm. However please note that this trip is affected by tides and in some cases will arrive and leave from Kingfisher Bay Resort instead of Wanggoolba Creek – so please keep this in mind when booking. This trip takes 30 minutes.
Once you arrive on the mainland, from Hook Point it’s just a 30-40 minute drive up the beach. From the western side, it’s around a 1 hour drive via the inland tracks.

The Beach Houses – Our Verdict
We spent a few nights at Beach Houses as part of a week long trip on K’gari . We really enjoyed staying at the Beach Houses – they are just like a home away from home. They are super spacious so everyone gets their own space and you’re not crammed in with one another as you are with a hotel room.
We loved having a full kitchen to prepare all our own meals – it’s not a kitchenette – but a full kitchen complete with dishwasher, microwave, oven and stove. It was also great having a laundry with both washing machine and dryer.
Probably best of all though was the location of the poolside houses. From our back verandah, we could easily see the pool. All you needed to do was walk down the back stairs, open the gate and you were in the pool area.
For families looking for a spacious and self contained option for exploring K’gari , particularly the southern end, you can’t go wrong with Beach Houses.
