Where to stay in Bourton on the Water?
Given all the main tourist attractions are in the city centre – this is where it’s recommended you stay. The closer you can stay to the town centre, the less walking you and the kids will need to do.
However, when it comes to hotels in the city centre – they tend not to be the best child friendly hotels as they often can’t accommodate a family in a single room and they can be rather expensive. They generally don’t have parking either.
The good news is that Bourton on the Water has quite a few apartments and holiday homes available. These properties come with kitchens, usually 2 or 3 bedrooms and often a washing machine, and generally free on site parking.
The downside of staying in an apartment is you don’t tend to get any additional facilities you’d expect from a hotel – such as a bar or a restaurant.

The Roman Villa is a quaint 2-bedroom home located around 700 metres from the city centre. Situated at the end of a residential cul-de-sac, the surrounding homes all have the same facade, so make sure you double check the number of the home before entering.
The home has 2 bedrooms, comfortably accommodating a family of 4. Each bedroom has a double bed, and the living room has a sofa bed, so there is enough room to spread out with the option for children to sleep in their own beds.
The kitchen is modern and has all the conveniences of your appliances at home, including an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. And there is a decent sized dining table to eat whatever meals you prepare. The home also features a washing machine.
Out the back is a small patio to get some fresh air and let the kids have a play. The patio also has a great green outlook to the hills, and the path into town runs past here.
Rounding out the facilities at the Roman Villa is a washing machine, free parking and free Wi-Fi.
What’s to love?
This is the cheapest property in this guide, and for an entire house with free parking, that’s a pretty great deal.

Chestnut Bed and Breakfast
Chestnut Bed and Breakfast is in the centre of town, with a gorgeous outlook over the village green and the River Windrush. Being centrally located, you’re surrounded by all types of retailers, cafes and the town’s attractions.
The character filled rooms are compact, sleeping a family of 4 in a double bed and pull out sofa bed. This particular property only accepts children over the age of 8, so unfortunately, if you have younger kids, this won’t be the property for you.
The rooms offer tea/coffee facilities and free Wi-Fi. There are also folding chairs available for river picnics.
A hearty English Breakfast is included in your stay, served every morning in the large south-facing breakfast room.
What’s to love?
For a centrally located property with breakfast included, this is well priced.
What’s not to love?

There are 6 suites, with the family suite accommodating 4 guests in 2 separate bedrooms. Each room has a king with the option to split into singles, perfect for kids who don’t like to share. The suite also offers a coffee machine and kettle – to enjoy a cuppa as you take in the view, and free Wi-Fi.
A full English Breakfast is included and served to your room each morning to energise you for the day. When it’s time for lunch or dinner, you’ve got loads of options being in the centre of town… the Old Bank Rooms are actually situated above a Fish and Chip shop – We’ve eaten here and highly recommend it!
What’s to love?
Being centrally located with views of the river is pretty special, and the sumptuous Breakfast tops off our love list.
What’s not to love?
With no cooking facilities on offer, there’s no way you can offset any of the considerable nightly costs with meals prepared in the room. And the lack of parking could be an extra expense if you drive.

For those families who like to stay in style, the Old Bank Rooms are beautiful suites. Whilst you don’t have any cooking facilities in the room, breakfast is included – which is one less meal to buy.

If you like to wake up to a barista-made coffee, then Moore Apartment might be of interest to you – as it is located above a cafe. The cafe also serves yummy lunches and delightful afternoon teas with scones. The apartment is also centrally located, just a minute’s walk from the town’s main street.
This three bedroom apartment accommodates families of up to 6 with a king bed in the main room, a double bed in the attic bedroom and 2 singles in the third bedroom.
The fully equipped kitchen has everything you need to prepare delicious meals – there is also a dining table perfect for the entire family to eat at once. In addition, the apartment has a large living room with a plush lounge to sink into and catch up on some UK TV.
If you do have younger children, you can request a travel cot and high chair – instead of carting them around yourselves.
Lastly families who have driven into town will appreciate the on site parking.

For such a large apartment, it’s a shame that there’s no washing machine to catch up on laundry – especially for larger families with many kids. It is a little pricey too.

Moore Apartment is a great family property – perfect for those with plenty of kids or multi-generational travellers. It’s not the cheapest of properties – but considering all you get and the central location – it’s actually quite good value for money.

A gorgeous modern cottage, Lavender Lodge is located in a peaceful lane, less than a 5 minute walk into town. This 2 bedroom cottage can accommodate families of 4 in bedrooms on different levels – perfect for those who like that little extra privacy.

What’s to love?
Free parking is a great bonus as you’re so close to town that you can leave your car at the cottage and walk in daily. The cottage is also beautiful and modern.
What’s not to love?
Not a lot actually; this is a pretty good option – the price is getting up there though.

Green Lake House
Green Lake House is around 1km from the city centre, located in a quiet residential area, this 2 bedroom home is nestled amongst similar looking terraces in a peaceful cul-de-sac.
Families of 5 are accommodated in 2 bedrooms. The main bedroom sleeps 2 people in a double bed, and the second bedroom sleeps 3 people in a bunk bed, with the bottom bed being a double size.
The kitchen is ready for budding chefs to prepare meals with an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. There is a small dining table to eat indoors and if the weather is nice, the outdoor patio has a larger dining table to enjoy meals. After eating, pop everything in the dishwasher and settle into the compact yet comfortable living area.
What’s to love?
Parking is included, which is great as if you have littlies, you may need to drive into town to avoid the walk. The accommodation is lovely and spacious and perfect for slightly larger families.
What’s not to love?
At 1km from town, this is the furthest accommodation in this guide. While it is still walkable, it may be a little far if you have younger children or anyone with mobility issues. This is also one of the most expensive properties in this guide.
Summary
Whilst the price is certainly getting up there, the Green Lake House is a good option if you have a larger family and all want to stay at the same property.

Situated above The Croft Restaurant, The Croft Apartment is in the heart of Bourton on the Water overlooking the River Windrush. This 2 bedroom apartment is modern and eclectic, accommodating families of 4.
Each of the bedrooms at the Croft Apartment features a king bed – so can sleep two people. The apartment also features a kitchen equipped with an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. There is a dining table to eat meals and pop everything in the dishwasher when you’re finished.
However, breakfast is one meal taken care of! Each morning simply pop down to the restaurant, where you’ll be served a full English Breakfast with tea or coffee.
