Where to stay in Bourton on the Water?

Given all the main tourist attractions are in the city centre – this is where it’s recommended you stay.  The closer you can stay to the town centre, the less walking you and the kids will need to do.

However, when it comes to hotels in the city centre – they tend not to be the best child friendly hotels as they often can’t accommodate a family in a single room and they can be rather expensive.  They generally don’t have parking either.

The good news is that Bourton on the Water has quite a few apartments and holiday homes available.  These properties come with kitchens, usually 2 or 3 bedrooms and often a washing machine, and generally free on site parking.

The downside of staying in an apartment is you don’t tend to get any additional facilities you’d expect from a hotel – such as a bar or a restaurant.

At the end of the day, provided your accommodation is within walking distance of the city centre, any accommodation you choose will be fine.

You can easily see the accommodation location covered in this guide on the map above.  But to make it even easier for you, we’ve listed the property’s distance from the City Centre in the table above too.

Best Places to Stay in Bourton on the Water with Kids Review

After hours of research and exploring Bourton on the Water, I’ve shortlisted 10 of the best family accommodation Bourton on the Water offers.

These are among the best Bourton on the Water budget accommodation options for families and are all in a good location so you can easily reach all the popular tourist attractions.

Roman Villa

The Roman Villa is a quaint 2-bedroom home located around 700 metres from the city centre. Situated at the end of a residential cul-de-sac, the surrounding homes all have the same facade, so make sure you double check the number of the home before entering.

The home has 2 bedrooms, comfortably accommodating a family of 4. Each bedroom has a double bed, and the living room has a sofa bed, so there is enough room to spread out with the option for children to sleep in their own beds.

The kitchen is modern and has all the conveniences of your appliances at home, including an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. And there is a decent sized dining table to eat whatever meals you prepare. The home also features a washing machine.

Out the back is a small patio to get some fresh air and let the kids have a play. The patio also has a great green outlook to the hills, and the path into town runs past here.

Rounding out the facilities at the Roman Villa is a washing machine, free parking and free Wi-Fi.

What’s to love?

This is the cheapest property in this guide, and for an entire house with free parking, that’s a pretty great deal.

What’s not to love?

A little way to the centre of town compared to other hotels in this guide, but definitely still walkable. And the second bedroom is quite small, so it may not be suitable for 2 adults or 2 teens.

Summary

The Roman Villa is a great 2 bedroom home around a 10-minute walk from the city centre. The property is suitable for families after affordable accommodation and who don’t mind a short walk into town.

Chestnut Bed and Breakfast

Chestnut Bed and Breakfast is in the centre of town, with a gorgeous outlook over the village green and the River Windrush. Being centrally located, you’re surrounded by all types of retailers, cafes and the town’s attractions.

The character filled rooms are compact, sleeping a family of 4 in a double bed and pull out sofa bed. This particular property only accepts children over the age of 8, so unfortunately, if you have younger kids, this won’t be the property for you.

The rooms offer tea/coffee facilities and free Wi-Fi. There are also folding chairs available for river picnics.

A hearty English Breakfast is included in your stay, served every morning in the large south-facing breakfast room.

What’s to love?

For a centrally located property with breakfast included, this is well priced.

What’s not to love?

Under 8’s not being permitted to stay is a bit of a letdown for this hotel. If you do stay, you’ll have to be comfortable with all the family sharing the one room which can get tight.

Summary

If you’re a family with kids over 8 years old, you are permitted to stay here; however, the older the kids get the bigger they get, and you may be fighting for space in the room. However, if this suits your family, you’ll get an affordable hotel in the town centre.

Old Bank Rooms

Situated front and centre on High Street, the Old Bank Rooms are as central as you can get. These comfortable suites are set within a former bank and have stunning views over the river – so you can enjoy the vista from your bay window without battling the crowds.

There are 6 suites, with the family suite accommodating 4 guests in 2 separate bedrooms. Each room has a king with the option to split into singles, perfect for kids who don’t like to share. The suite also offers a coffee machine and kettle – to enjoy a cuppa as you take in the view, and free Wi-Fi.

A full English Breakfast is included and served to your room each morning to energise you for the day. When it’s time for lunch or dinner, you’ve got loads of options being in the centre of town… the Old Bank Rooms are actually situated above a Fish and Chip shop – We’ve eaten here and highly recommend it!

What’s to love?

Being centrally located with views of the river is pretty special, and the sumptuous Breakfast tops off our love list.

What’s not to love?

With no cooking facilities on offer, there’s no way you can offset any of the considerable nightly costs with meals prepared in the room. And the lack of parking could be an extra expense if you drive.

Summary

For those families who like to stay in style, the Old Bank Rooms are beautiful suites. Whilst you don’t have any cooking facilities in the room, breakfast is included – which is one less meal to buy.

Moore Apartment

If you like to wake up to a barista-made coffee, then Moore Apartment might be of interest to you – as it is located above a cafe. The cafe also serves yummy lunches and delightful afternoon teas with scones. The apartment is also centrally located, just a minute’s walk from the town’s main street.

This three bedroom apartment accommodates families of up to 6 with a king bed in the main room, a double bed in the attic bedroom and 2 singles in the third bedroom.

Lastly families who have driven into town will appreciate the on site parking.

What’s to love?

Spacious accommodation for large families in a super central location.

What’s not to love?

For such a large apartment, it’s a shame that there’s no washing machine to catch up on laundry – especially for larger families with many kids. It is a little pricey too.

Summary

Moore Apartment is a great family property – perfect for those with plenty of kids or multi-generational travellers. It’s not the cheapest of properties – but considering all you get and the central location – it’s actually quite good value for money.
