Looking for the best family hotels in Tewkesbury– in a central location that won’t blow the budget? Then read on – this family accommodation in Tewkesbury guide is for you!
The good news when looking for places to stay in Tewkesbury is the town is not overly big, so most accommodation is reasonably central, and you can easily walk to most tourist attractions.
However, the bad news is there really aren’t any cheap hotels in Tewkesbury, nor are there any cheap hotels near Tewkesbury, for that matter!
The good news though, is there are quite a few privately owned apartments that you can rent. This is great because it means you get plenty of space for the kids and can prepare your own meals too. You generally get free on site parking with these privately owned Tewkesbury places to stay too.
Recently in town ourselves, we spent a fair bit of time researching the area and where to stay in Tewkesbury with kids. We compared a range of accommodation and places to stay near Tewkesbury and shortlisted 10, which we cover in this guide.

Where to stay in Tewkesbury?
As all the main tourist attractions are in the city centre – this is where it’s recommended you stay. The closer you can stay to the town centre, the less walking you and the kids will need to do.
While there are some good central properties to choose from – accommodation in town is fairly limited, so in some cases, you may need to book a place outside of town. If you’re driving, this won’t really be a problem. If you’re not driving – then book your accommodation fast!
You can easily see the location of the accommodation covered in this guide on the map above. But to make it even easier for you, we’ve listed the property’s distance from the city centre in the table above.
Best Family Places to Stay in Tewkesbury Reviews
After hours of research and spending some time exploring Tewkesbury, I’ve shortlisted 10 of the best family accommodation Tewkesbury offers.
Burrows Court
Burrows Court is a 2 bedroom home across 3 levels, located in the heart of Tewkesbury. Right next door, you’ll find the Tewkesbury Museum, and nearby are a range of shops, cafes and other attractions.
The 2 bedroom apartment accommodates families of 4 with a double bed in the master bedroom and 2 single beds in the second bedroom. You need to go through the master bedroom to access the second bedroom with a curtain dividing the 2 rooms to retain privacy.
The well equipped kitchen has a range of appliances so you can easily self-cater. The living room features a dining table and comfy couches surrounding an exposed brick fireplace.
Outside is a lovely enclosed shared courtyard garden. Here you’ll find multiple seating areas, including a unique ‘shed’ filled with cinema-style folding chairs so that you can enjoy the outdoors no matter the weather.
What’s to love?
This is a great all round property. The location is great, the price is reasonable and you have a fair bit of space to spread out for the whole family.
What’s not to love?
The layout of the home is a little tricky, with 3 levels accessed by steep staircases and the 2 rooms separated by a random beam kids will need to climb over – adventure loving kids will think this is a lot of fun, however not ideal for younger kids.
Summary
A great 2 bedroom home in the centre of town, Burrows Court won’t break the bank, but it may break you out in a sweat from the staircases and hidey-hole twin bedroom. If you’re happy to up your step count on your stay, don’t let the stairs deter you, as this is a great property.

Shepherd’s Rest Apartments
Centrally located, Shepherd’s Rest Apartments is in a lovely lane off the main road in town. This 2 bedroom apartment is less than a minute’s walk to all the cafes, restaurants and tea houses – making eating out easy.
If you decide to eat in, the contemporary kitchen is fully equipped with an oven, stovetop, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. The kitchen also features a dining table and washing machines.
Each of the bedrooms features a double bed so the apartment can sleep up to four people. There is also a spacious living room for relaxing after a busy sightseeing day.
The best thing about the Shepherds Rest Apartment is the entire property is on the ground floor. So unlike many other Cotswolds properties – no steep staircases to navigate! Plus, you can use the easy access free parking and stroll straight in the front door with all your luggage.
What’s to love?
Everything – location, price, entire apartment all to yourself – as well as free parking on site!
What’s not to love?
It’s hard to fault this property, but if we had to, we’d say the kids having to share a double bed rather than having a single bed each. Ok for little ones, not so much for older kids.
Summary
Shepherd’s Rest Apartment is ideal for those with littlies or mobility issues. Being centrally located means minimal walking and having the entire apartment on the ground floor means easy access into the property and easy access once you’re inside too – none of the usual steep staircases to navigate that you often find in UK properties.

Alum House
A quirky double story cottage, Alum House is around 1 kilometre from the centre of town. While you could easily walk this if you’re feeling energetic, there is free parking on site – so you can easily drive into town as needed.
The cottage accommodates families of up to 4 people, with a double bed downstairs and a sofa bed upstairs. It’s worth noting that the stairs are spiral, so this might not be an idea if you have younger kids. The living room is compact and if you’re using the sofa to sleep on, you’ll either need to pack it up during the day or sit on it folded out.
The kitchenette is quaint but has all you need to prepare and cook simple meals – a stovetop, microwave, kettle, toaster and small bar fridge. And to let some fresh air in, the doors open to a small balcony for a nice breeze.
What’s to love?
Price – this is one of the cheapest properties in this guide.
What’s not to love?
This property is 1 kilometre out of town, so whilst still walkable, it is certainly not as central as some other properties in this guide. The property is quite small too, for a family.
Summary
The Alum House is a well priced property within walking distance of town. It is on the smaller side, so if you have older kids, it could be a little squashy for longer stays as there’s not much space to spread out.

There is a lovely restaurant onsite, making dining out easy. It has a great award-winning children’s menu with loads of healthy options. Just be sure to make a booking as it is super popular and you don’t want to miss out.
There is also a bar on site which is perfect for a drink after a day of sightseeing and kid wrangling.
What’s to love?
The price! The cheapest property in this guide and it’s in the centre of town. If budget is your priority – this place is for you.
What’s not to love?
The entire family will be in one room together, so you won’t have the space and facilities that other properties in this guide offer.

What’s to love?
The facilities! This place has everything! The kids will never get bored staying here – and the adults may find it hard to leave.

The Tudor House Hotel
The Tudor House Hotel is one of the most distinctive buildings on the High Street located in the centre of town. The hotel dates back to 1546, however don’t worry, the rooms are modern and comfortable – yet still retain the original charm of the historic building.
Families of 4 will need to book 2 rooms as rooms only come with a double bed. Each room has tea and coffee facilities and are individually styled so that you may be in different looking rooms yet still with the same amenities.
Whilst this is one of the most expensive hotels in this guide, you’ll find free parking and free breakfast, which will help stretch your budget a little. And it’s not just any breakfast – the superb seasonal menu showcases the best of Tewkesbury and beyond. And if you choose to dine for lunch or dinner, the restaurant will set your tastebuds alight with the finest locally sourced ingredients curated into a menu the whole family will love.
There is also a decadent afternoon tea on offer with tiered stands filled to the brim with savoury and sweet delights – now this is definitely something even the fussiest of kids will enjoy.
What’s to love?
Location. The Tudor House Hotel is in the centre of town, which makes it perfect for sightseeing. You also get free parking and breakfast.
What’s not to love?
You only get a hotel room with this property – and as nice as the rooms are, the price is more than double some of the cheaper places in this guide.
Summary:
If you have the budget to spare, the Tudor House Hotel is a delightful heritage hotel in the centre of town. Free parking and free breakfast will help stretch the budget a little; however this is the most expensive property in this guide.

Tallets Apartment
Tallets Apartment is centrally located in a lane off the main road in town. Simply descend the external staircase of this 2 bedroom apartment and within less than a minute, you’ll be in the town centre with all the attractions, shops and cafes at your fingertips.
Families of 4 are accommodated in the 2 bedrooms with a double bed in each – so if you have teens, they may not be too keen on sharing. However, there’s plenty of space to get away from each other with a decent size living room containing a couple of comfy couches.
The fully equipped kitchen will have you whipping up meals with all the appliances you would have at home, and there is a great sized table for everyone to dine at. If the weather is nice, the outdoor balcony has a dining table too, as well as a BBQ.
What’s to love?
Everything – location, price, entire house all to yourself – as well as free parking on site!
What’s not to love?
It’s hard to fault this property, but if we had to – we’d say the kids having to share a double bed and the external staircase make accessing the property with luggage a bit of a pain.
Summary
A well priced 2 bedroom apartment centrally located, the Tallets Apartment is a great option for families who like to self cater yet still want to stay in modern accommodation close to amenities.

The 2 bedrooms accommodate a family of 4, with a double bed in each room. The rooms are accessed on the top floor, with the staircase having a rope bannister to steady yourself, so if you have mobility issues or younger children, this may be a challenge.
Downstairs is where all the living areas are. The combined lounge and dining area face a cosy fireplace and TV to snuggle up and enjoy movies together. The galley kitchen is off the living area and is modern farmhouse chic, with rustic beams running through the area, combined with contemporary cupboards and a deep farmhouse sink – but if you don’t feel like washing up, just use the dishwasher provided.

Hilton Puckrup Hall
Set on 140 acres of private grounds, Hilton Puckrup Hall is located on the edge of the Cotswolds, around a 4.5 kilometre drive into the centre of Tewkesbury.
Whilst the facade is grand and imposing, the rooms are what you would find at a normal Hilton corporate hotel – nothing wrong with that, but if you’re after a room filled with character and charm, this isn’t it. Families of 4 can sleep in a family room with 2 double beds available.
The onsite facilities are where the Hilton shines- an 18-hole championship golf course with a putting green and golf lessons available. The gym is full of all the equipment you need to get in a good workout, along with an indoor pool, sauna and steam room. And when it’s time to relax, indulge in one of the spa treatments at the exclusive Schmoo Skincare Spa.

In the afternoons, they offer up one of the UK’s finest traditions – a delicious Afternoon Tea. And Coopers Bar offers a range of casual snacks and drinks throughout the day – all overlooking the golf course.
What’s to love?
The facilities! With everything you need on site, it might be hard to get the kids (and adults) to actually leave and go sightseeing; this is also one of only two places in this guide with a pool.
What’s not to love?
The property is 4.5 kilometres from the centre of town, the furthest away out of all the properties in this guide. So this property is not ideal for those families hoping to wander into town.
Summary
For families who love to have all the facilities of a big hotel chain onsite – the Hilton Puckrup Hall is a great option; you definitely won’t get bored here. Whilst the Hilton doesn’t have the charm and character of other properties in this guide – and it is quite far out of town, if you want to stay in a hotel chain you’re familiar with, check this one out.
