Best places to stay in Byron Bay

Below, we briefly cover the more popular areas to stay in Byron Bay.

Byron Bay CBD and Main Beach

If you want to be in the heart of it all, the city centre is one of the best areas to stay in Byron Bay.

The Byron Bay city centre comprises of the CBD area and popular beaches, including Main Beach and Byron Beach – two of the best beaches in town.  The area is well stocked with shops, restaurants and pubs, making it a great location for those short on time and who want everything within easy reach.

The city’s main thoroughfare is Jonson Street. Neighbouring Fletcher Street is where most of Byron Bay’s shopping and nightlife are located.

Being in the centre of town gives you easy access to all of Bryon Bay’s attractions as well as the surrounding area.  From here, you can easily reach several beaches and nature reserves and visit the iconic Cape Byron, the easternmost point in Australia.

Sunrise and Belongil Beach

Just a short drive north of the main city centre of Byron Bay is the small village of Sunrise and Belongil Beach.

Belongil Beach stretches for over 2 km from Main Beach to Belongil Creek. This area of Byron Bay is less crowded than the city centre and the beach offers a more relaxed atmosphere.

In the Sunrise Beach area, you’ll find a few shops, cafes and restaurants, such as the popular Stone & Wood Brewery, which offers guided tours and tastings of local ales.

The Sunrise Beach area connects to Byron Bay CBD via a train and bus service.

Tallows Beach

Commencing on the south side of Cape Bryon, Tallows Beach is a gorgeous stretch of coastline running 6.5km down to Broken Head.

Popular with surfers and other beachgoers, the area is mostly deserted but is ideal for anyone seeking to escape from the city centre.  The beach is close to Arakwal National Park, which has beautiful hiking trails and is perfect for spotting wildlife.
