Khao Lak is such an awesome holiday destination for families. There are so many stunning beaches to choose from and countless number of fabulous family resorts – so where do you start in choosing your accommodation?
Well, we recently spent a few wonderful days at the X10 Khao Lak Resort. This is a fantastic family friendly resort with the perfect balance of things to do for the kids, as well as plenty of things to keep mum and dad happy too.
In this comprehensive review, we’ll take you through exactly how X10 caters to the unique needs of families. Not only does this review cover all the fabulous things to keep the kids entertained, but we also look at the accommodation options, dining options and more.
So let’s get into and see if X10 is right for your family’s next beachside holiday in Thailand.

X10 Khaolak Resort Review
Below we cover in detail everything you need to know about X10 to decide if it’s the perfect accommodation for your family holiday in Khao Lak.
Location
X10 Khao Lak Resort is located in the southern part of Khao Lak – on the northern end of the popular Nang Thong beach. The resort is located directly on the beachfront, making it an ideal location for families planning on spending long days on the beach.
From the resort, it’s about a 10 minute walk to the start of the shopping area along the main road. Here you’ll find plenty of places to eat, massage shops and souvenir stores. It’s about a 20 minute walk to the centre of town – or a 150 THB taxi ride.
In the other direction, from X10, you’re about a 30 minute walk from the centre of Bang Niang – where you’ll also find the Bang Niang night markets – the perfect place to take the kids for dinner and to spend their pocket money.
X10 Kids Club
Now I know most people coming for a family beach holiday in Thailand want an awesome kids club to keep the little ones entertained – so lets look at this next.
The Happy Woody kids club is open from 9 am to 5 pm daily and caters for kids aged 5 to 15. Kids under 5 are more than welcome to come but they will need to be accompanied by an adult.
Kids aged 5-7 can only come and leave the kids club with their parents, while kids older than this are welcome to come and go as they please – unless you notify the staff differently.
Now of course kids between the ages of 5 to 15 have quite differing interests – but there are a wide range of activities here to keep all ages entertained.
There are all the usual kids club activities such as arts and crafts, video games, movies, games, toys for little ones etc but other activities include hair braiding, Zumba, nail art, cooking and even water volleyball. Plus there is a great outdoor playground within the kids club area.
While most activities are free of charge, some, like cooking or nail art have a small charge.
Below you can see an example of activities that were on during the week we stayed there.
Most importantly the kids club at X10 is completely free for all guests of the resort.
Things to do at X10
Ok so we’ve covered the kids club, but what else is there to do at X10? Well, there is plenty more to do!
Swimming Pools
While for most – 1 or 2 pools would be more than sufficient – but at X10 – there are a whopping 5 pools to choose from!
All of the pools are beautifully lagoon style and set among the palm tree filled gardens of the Family Wing and Beach Wing.
For the kids, there are two pools, one with a great big waterslide – even the parents can have a go on this one. There is also a small shallow pool, which is perfect for little ones to swim in.
And wait – there’s more! There is also a great little water play area with a few of those waterfall mushrooms and spurting water fountains – great for the tiny tots.
While the kids are safe in the kids club – parents will love hanging out in the adults only swimming pool (see main image). It’s a lovely quiet area of the resort – perfect for lazying around on a sun lounger and reading a book. Then, of course, there is the swim-up pool bar when you start to feel a bit thirsty!
The pools are open daily from 8 am to 8 pm
Gym
Gyms are not really my cup of tea when I’m on holiday – but in case it’s yours – I went and checked this out while staying at X10 – but I can assure you that’s all I did!
The gym is spacious and features equipment such as free weights, weight machines, treadmills and bikes. It is free for guests 13+ to use.
The gym is open daily from 6 am to 10 pm, so early enough for you to get a quick session in before breakfast or before the kids wake up.
Fitness Classes
If the gym isn’t enough for you, as you can see from above, there is also a range of fitness classes you can join.
While the above classes have an additional charge – you can join fitness classes such as Zumba, stretching, aqua or dance join free of charge.
Pool and tennis tables
For some family fun, visit the pool table and tennis table. The equipment is free for guests.
Water Sports
Watersports are available on the beach for an additional fee. Guests can try stand up paddleboarding, kayaking, bodyboarding and windsurfing.
Prices range from 100 THB to 400 THB per hour and from 550 THB to 1500 THB depending on the watersport you choose.
Karaoke
While we didn’t get the chance to join in – this is one activity that I reckon the whole family would love!
I’m not sure if this is at the same time each week – but during the week we were at X10, karaoke was on Sunday night from 9 pm to 10 pm. A great activity for families with older kids.
Cooking Classes
I love taking cooking classes whenever we travel as replicating the dishes at home (or trying to!) always reminds us of our trips.
X10 offers 3 hour cooking classes where you will learn to make a 3 course meal. You can choose to make Thai soup, spring rolls or salad, Phad Thai noodles or green curry. There are 3 options to choose from in each course.
Numbers are limited to just six people so you will get lots of attention and direction from the chef.
The class starts with a trip to the on-site vegetable garden, where you will harvest any ingredients needed for your recipes. You will then spend around 1.5 hours cooking your dishes before sitting down to enjoy your food in the restaurant.
Every participant receives a certificate from the Head Chef at the end of the class.
Cooking classes are daily at 12 pm and bookings are essential. The price is 2100 plus 7% tax per person.
Family Games
There is a Family Games Night twice a week which is fun for all ages. The games include Plinko, Quilles, the old favourite Connect Four, Hanging Labyrinth, Ring Toss and Wall Climb so there is something for all ages and abilities.
I’m not sure if this is at the same time each week – but during the week we were at X10 the family games were on Sunday night from 8.30 to 9 pm (just before karaoke).
Dining Options
X10 has various food and drink options on site to keep even the fussiest of little eaters satisfied!
Main Restaurant
The aptly named Main Restaurant serves buffet style local and international dishes. It also offers a kid’s menu with both Thai food and favourites such as pasta, hot dogs and burgers.
This is also where you’ll have your buffet breakfast each morning which we found fantastic. Everything is here, including eggs cooked to order, bacon, pancakes, fruit, cereal, pastries, and so much more – you and the kids won’t go hungry, that’s for sure!
And don’t miss free popcorn and soft drinks for the kids here between 3 pm to 5 pm each day. This just so happens to line up with happy hour for the parents which is 30% off cocktails.
The Main Restaurant is open for breakfast from 6.30 am to 10.30 am, lunch from 12 pm to 3.30 pm and dinner from 6 pm to 10 pm.
Seaside Seafood Kitchen
If you’re looking for a sit down meal while you’re by the pool, head on over to the Seaside Seafood Kitchen – a casual venue with large glass doors so you can catch the sea breeze whether you sit inside or out.
Despite the name, the Seaside Seafood Kitchen serves a range of meals including seafood, Thai food and comfort food like burgers, pizza and pasta. There’s also an excellent kids’ menu with a huge variety of meal options – even the fussiest of eaters will find something they like here.
And if you don’t feel like getting up from your sun lounger by the pool – you can order on your phone via a QR code and have your meal brought directly to you.
Hours: Every day from 12 pm to 10 pm
Swim Up Pool Bar
My idea of an excellent pool is one that features a swim-up pool bar, and so I was grinning ear to ear when I found one at X10 Resort!
This swim-up pool bar serves a range of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic – sadly, there is no happy hour.
Hours: Every day, 10 am to 6 pm.
Beach Bar
Next to a swim up pool bar, there is nothing that makes me feel more on holiday than a beach bar!
X10’s beach bar serves the same drinks menu as the Main Bar. I highly recommend it for a pre dinner cocktail.
Hours: Every day, 11 am to 11 pm.
Room Service
Room service is available 24 hours a day and is perfect when the kids have had a long day.
The menu includes pizza, pasta, fish and chips and Thai food plus desserts, soft drinks and beer.
Other Facilities
In addition to all the dining, luxury rooms and kid-friendly activities, there are a few extras that make the X10 the best resort in Khao Lak.
Shuttle Bus to Khao Lak Center and Bang Niang
The resort provides a shuttle bus to Khao Lak Center and to Bang Niang. The journey is a round trip, so you can get on at any of the drop-off points to return to the hotel.
The ride takes 10 minutes to Khao Lak Center and 20 minutes to reach Bang Niang. Seats must be booked at least 30 minutes before departure times.
The bus runs three times a day at 11 am, 4 pm and 7 pm and costs 50 THB per person.
The Sun Spa
While the kids are in the Kids Club, I recommend you head off to the elegant Sun Spa for the ultimate indulgence and a bit of ‘me’ time.
Treatments include relaxing massages, rejuvenating deep tissue massages and body scrubs.
Hours: Every day from 10 am to 7 pm
Prices: Ranging from 800 THB to 1500 THB
The Beach
X10 Resort is located on a quiet area of beach around mid way between Nang Thong and Bang Niang Beaches.
As you can see from above, the sand here has a golden colour and it is a wide stretch of beach with plenty of space for the kids to run around and build sand castles.
What is really great here is the calm water – this is perfect for little ones to safely swim in. The water is lovely and warm too and makes for a lovely change when the kids have had enough of the pool.
Accommodation Options
X10 offers a range of different style rooms and suites, from luxury hotel rooms to spacious self-contained apartments and spa suites.
Family deluxe
If you want to book a deluxe room, you have a choice of staying in the Family Wing or in the Beach Wing. Both sections look over pools, with the family wing being at the front of the resort and the beach wing closer to the beach. All the rooms are similar in size, layout and decor.
Family deluxe rooms sleep up to 2 adults and 1 child under 12 in a King size bed or single beds. The child sleeps in a rollaway bed and cots are available on request for babies and toddlers.
Each neutral toned air conditioned room has a desk, a TV, a safe, a fridge and a kettle. The glass-enclosed ensuite has a huge walk-in shower, and bathrobes and slippers are provided.
Sliding doors open onto a balcony with sun loungers and pool views.
Families with older kids can book the triple rooms where the third bed is a sofa bed. These rooms also have larger balconies.
For something a little special, you can book a ground floor room in the Beach Wing, which offers direct access to the pool from your own personal terrace.
Two bedroom kids Suite
There are also Kids’ Suites available in both the Family Wing and the Beach Wing.
These funky, colourful rooms sleep up to 4 people in two separate rooms. The master bedroom has a king size bed, while the kids have a very cool room all of their own with a set of bunk beds, a child-sized desk, a play mat and beanbags. This family hotel Khao Lak has, really has thought of everything!
Each room features its own bathroom, with the kid’s room having a bathtub – perfect for little ones or even a soak for the parents.
A third child can be accommodated in a rollaway bed at an additional charge, while cots can be arranged for children under 3 at no cost.
Kids Suites also offer a private patio with views across the pool.
X10 Khaolak Resort – our verdict
We spent 4 nights at X10 Khaolak Resort and loved every single minute of it!
X10 has the perfect balance of fun, relaxation, activity and entertainment, with the added bonus of some possible child-free time. There are varied dining options that cater for all tastes and ages. Everything you need or want is on one site and even getting off site is easy and smooth.
Plus, the resort is super high quality, is well maintained and we found it to have excellent and personable customer service.
Whilst it is not one of the Khao Lak cheap hotels, it does offer good value for money and is undoubtedly one of the top 10 hotels in Khao Lak.
