Doha is a stunning desert city in the heart of the Middle East, and there is a range of different areas to stay in, depending on your preference. You can choose between a modern day hotel with loads of family friendly facilities in the heart of the traditional old quarters or somewhere close to the beach.
Below we’ve chosen 4 areas that we think are among the best places to stay in Doha for families.
Souq Waqif / Al Jasra
Al Jasra is a small area surrounded by the Souq Waqif, a lively traditional marketplace. It’s the best area to stay in Doha for tourists wanting to experience the old traditions of Qatar and those on a short layover, as it’s only a 15 minute drive from the airport.
Hotels near Souq Waqif – Doha are serviced by the Yellow Line, with the nearest metro being Souq Waqif. However, you will need to change lines at Msherieb to get to the Red Line, which services the airport and many other Doha attractions. Depending on where you’re staying, you can also walk to the Masherieb metro station.
Like anywhere in town, you won’t find any cheap Doha hotels in the Souq Waqif area. But you will find plenty of restaurants, shops and a lively nightlife, so you’ll have plenty to do just metres from your hotel.
Doha Port
The Doha Port, Doha Harbour, and the lovely Corniche Promenade are a little further east of the area surrounding Souq Waqif. This area has various attractions, such as the Museum of Islamic Art and the National Museum of Qatar.
The Yellow Line services this area with metro stations, including National Museum and Souq Waqif. You will need to change lines at Msherieb to get to the Red Line, which services the airport and many other Doha attractions.
West Bay
West Bay is a popular area for families to stay in Doha. It’s the modern part of town and a lovely neighbourhood on the West Bay Lagoon close to a range of attractions, including Museums of Illusions and the huge City Center Mall. You’re also near the beautiful Corniche Promenade.
Within West Bay, you’ll find big name hotel brands with fantastic facilities. The only problem with staying in West Bay is if you plan on using the train to get around, it is a bit of a walk to the Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC) metro, which is the main station servicing the West Bay area. But there are buses to get you around too.
The good news is that West Bay is serviced by the Red Line Metro, which makes getting around to attractions easy.
The Pearl Island
Where is the best place to stay in Doha to live like the rich and famous – Pearl Island of course!
Surprisingly, you can get some great value hotels here despite all the glitz and glamour. So while you won’t find the cheapest hotels in Doha at Pearl Island, certainly don’t overlook the area if you’re after a good value for money hotel.
Pearl Island is an artificial island in Doha, well known for its fancy hotels, modern cafes and restaurants, Mediterranean style marina, massive luxurious shopping malls and beautifully manicured gardens.
The closest metro station to Pearl Island is Legtaifiya on the Red Line, making it fairly easy to get around to Doha’s other attractions. However, from most Pearl Island hotels, the metro station is a 10 minute drive away, but the area is also served by a bus.

Souq Waqif Boutique hotel lies in the heart of the Souq Waqif, steps away from the old marketplace where you can shop for traditional garments, spices, handicrafts and more. Restaurants and shisha lounges also surround you, so you won’t need to walk far for a meal.
The hotel is a complex of nine historic buildings. Each building has its own name and a different style of architecture. Facilities include a pool, gym, spa, and 8 restaurants.
Families can book interconnecting rooms with extra large double beds or single beds. The contemporary style rooms are a good size and have a seating area, flat screen TV, free WiFi and a desk. Each room has tea and coffee making facilities.
It is just 5 minutes on foot to the Corniche and a short 700 metre walk to the nearest Metro Station (Souq Waqif) on the Gold Line.
What’s to love?
The traditional, historical vibe of this hotel. Its intricate woodwork, Islamic art and marble floors create a luxurious but authentic feel. Also, you can’t beat the location steps away from the Souq Waqif marketplace.
What’s not to love?
Families will require interconnecting rooms, which isn’t always ideal depending on how old your children are – although it may be a godsend for older kids!

Very difficult to fault these apartments – although it is a bit further from the nearest metro station than the other hotels in Souq Waqif listed in this guide, it’s still within walking distance.

Alwadi Hotel
One of the best hotels near Doha city centre, the Alwadi Hotel offers direct access to Souq Waqif and is just 500m from the Msheiren metro station.
The Alwadi has a 24 front desk to help arrange tours and activities, a restaurant, a gym and a rooftop swimming pool. In addition, there is a bar, spa and handy airport shuttle service.
Like most hotels in Doha city centre, there are no family rooms, with each room coming with just one bed – however, additional beds can be arranged at an additional cost. Each room is air conditioned and features a flat screen TV, a desk and soft seats.
The larger executive rooms offer a full sized sofa, and kids will love the city view from the floor to ceiling windows. The stylish suites have a separate living area, and some rooms offer a balcony.
What’s to love?
The location is excellent – close to Souq Waqif, and just 500m from Msheireb Metro station means you’ve got easy access to all the attractions in Doha.
What’s not to love?

Golden Tulip Hotel
Hotels near Doha city centre attractions don’t get much better than the 5 star Golden Tulip.
The hotel is only 300 metres from the Corniche and just over 1 kilometre from Qatar National Museum. Plus, you’re surrounded by cafes and restaurants in this central location.
The hotel has an outdoor pool, a gym with a sauna and spa, plus a garden for those little ones who need a good run around. It also offers room service and free WiFi. Families can choose between a continental and buffet breakfast.
The comfortable air conditioned rooms feature a seating area, a flat screen TV and a kettle for making tea or heating bottles of milk. In addition, some rooms have a kitchenette with a fridge, stove and microwave, ideal for light self catering family meals.
Standard rooms at The Golden Tulip are more spacious than most other Doha city centre rooms. Families can book the Deluxe Family Room, which sleeps up to 3 or book interconnecting rooms. However, even with two rooms, the Golden Tulip is still one of the more affordable hotels in Doha.
Like most hotels close to Doha airport, the Golden Tulip offers a paid airport shuttle (it is very rare to find hotels near Doha airport with free shuttle services).

The price! This is by far one of the cheapest hotels in this guide.
What’s not to love?

Movenpick Hotel West Bay
While certainly not one of the best cheap hotels Doha has to offer, The Movenpick Hotel is a stunning 5 star hotel in the West Bay area, 30 minutes by car and metro from Doha city centre or a short drive from the famous Pearl Island. You’re also just a 15 minute walk from the City Center Mall or a short bus ride away.
The hotel features a luxury spa, wellness centre and a restaurant that provides kids’ menus. The restaurant also offers Family Brunch every Friday. The Movenpick West Bay is one of the rare hotels in Doha with indoor swimming pool facilities (and it is huge).
As expected from a Movenpick hotel, the rooms are stylish with modern decor. Each spacious room has a seating area and a small kitchenette with a fridge, sink and stovetop. Families need to book interconnecting rooms, meaning everyone gets their own space.
Families can enjoy free WiFi, free parking and room service. Selected rooms have amazing views of the Arabian Gulf, and Sustainable travellers will like to know that this hotel follows the Green Globe Sustainability Program.
While you are a 15 minute walk from the nearest metro station, the good news is that it is the red line which is great for sightseeing and the area is also well serviced by buses.
What’s to love?
Fabulous facilities and interconnecting rooms mean every family member gets plenty of space.
What’s not to love?
While interconnecting rooms are great for families with older children, this may not be ideal for those with young kids.
Summary

Aleph Doha Residences
Located in the heart of West Bay, the Aleph Doha Residences offers families child friendly accommodation with luxury facilities. From here, you’re conveniently located to visit all of the main Doha tourist attractions with easy access to Pearl Island and the city centre.
The hotel is part of the Hilton chain and features a restaurant, a bar, an indoor swimming pool, a sauna, a spa and a Turkish bath. There is free parking and WiFi.
Families can book 1 room or a suite that sleeps up to 4 people in 2 separate bedrooms. The spacious air conditioned suites are equipped with a large living and dining area with a full dining table, sofas, and a flat screen TV.
The well equipped kitchen is like a home away from home, with a full oven, coffee machine, dishwasher and washing machine. Kids will love the funky wall art and the incredible city views from the rooms.

The property comprises 250 apartments, a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining and a shopping mall. It also offers an outdoor swimming pool with a small separate kids’ pool, a large kids’ playroom, a gym, free parking, and WiFi.
Families are accommodated in 2 or 3 bedroom apartments. The bright and airy apartments offer extra large double beds, a spacious living and dining area with sofas, a full dining table and a flat screen TV.
Each apartment has a kitchen equipped with a fridge, microwave and washing machine. The 3 bedroom apartments (which can sleep up to 9 people) are enormous and have a balcony providing views over the Arabian Gulf.
It is 10 minutes by car or taxi to the nearest metro, although the area is serviced by buses.
