Where to Stay in Port Douglas with Kids
In terms of where to stay in Port Douglas with kids, one of the first things to consider is whether or not you’ll have a car with you. While Port Douglas is not overly big, it is large enough that depending on where you stay, you might not necessarily want to walk everywhere.
The main central area of Port Douglas is around Macrossan Street, where you’ll find plenty of shops and places to eat. Some of the best Port Douglas hotels are within this area and are perfect for those without a vehicle who need to walk everywhere.
However, for those wanting to stay at one of the best Port Douglas resorts with gorgeous beach views or at least a short walk to the beach, you’ll want to stay somewhere along Four Mile Beach.
Four Mile Beach is a long beach leading into the main area of Port Douglas. So the further north you are along Four Mile Beach – the shorter the walk or drive into town.
If you choose Port Douglas family accommodation on the beach’s southern end, you will need a vehicle to drive into town.
For families after cheap Port Douglas accommodation, you’ll need to stay further away from the centre of town. There is great value accommodation along the southern end of Four Mile Beach – you’ll find some great Port Douglas family resorts in this location.

After hours of research and many trips to Port Douglas myself, I’ve shortlisted 10 of the best hotels Port Douglas has for families.
Tropical Nites Holiday Townhouses
If you’re after Port Douglas cheap accommodation, you can’t go past the Tropical Nites Holiday Townhouses. Only 400 metres to the beach and around a 20-minute stroll into town, you’re in the same location as the Sheraton, yet you will pay half the price.

The full kitchen offers the convenience of preparing meals as you would at home as it is equipped with a fridge, oven, stovetop, microwave, kettle and toaster – plus a dishwasher to clean everything up.
Living areas are spacious with a lounge and dining table, and all dining ware is included. There is also a private outdoor balcony or patio to relax. Families will love the laundry with a washing machine and dryer to freshen up clothes after being in humid Port Douglas.
The resort has a (smallish) pool surrounded by tropical palms and sun loungers and the communal BBQ area is adjacent, so you can cook dinner as the family enjoys a dip.
