Where to Stay in Ipoh with Kids

When it comes to the best location to stay in Ipoh, I recommend you stay as close to the old town area as possible. The old town is where most of the attractions are, so by staying in an Ipoh old town hotel you’re easily within walking distance to all the main tourist sites.

In this Ipoh hotel list, I’ve also listed a few hotels in the new part of town, just across the river from the old town area. Often, in this area, you will get much better value for your money, yet still be within walking distance to the main attractions. This is also a better option for those that aren’t keen on staying in the centre of the tourist area.

If you want a super budget hotel in Ipoh town, consider a family room in an Ipoh hostel or a cheap homestay in Ipoh which has a shared bathroom. Hostels aren’t just for young travellers after all – they often provide great facilities for families too.

If you want something a little more spacious but still a cheap Ipoh hotel near town – then be prepared to move a little further from the old town. However, Grab is widely available in town and a cheap and easy way to get around to all the main sites.

The Best Places to Stay in Ipoh with Kids

Below I’ve listed my top picks for a great cheap hotel in Ipoh for family.   The blue pins in the map below show the location of all the accommodation.  Zoom the map in and out for a better view.

Abby by the River

Abby by the River offers families of varied sizes the chance to stay in a budget hotel Ipoh town offers, in a great location with clean and spacious rooms.

In this Ipoh downtown hotel, large families of up to six have the option to stay in a room with three sets of single bunk beds. If you have a smaller family, some rooms sleep three guests in one double bed and one single.

All rooms at this hotel in Ipoh town centre are fully air conditioned and come with a flat screen television, a small wardrobe for luggage storage and a private bathroom with shower facilities. Every room booking also includes a continental breakfast on the hotel’s rooftop, and guests can make use of the free wifi during their stay.

Abby by the River is in a convenient location for seeing local sights such as Mural Art’s Lane, which is just 260m away. Little India is just 750m away as is Concubine Lane, with its myriad of colourful stalls and shops. It’s a little further from the station than some of our other choices, but it’s still only 1.2km so within easy reach.

What do we love?

The rooms are spacious when you consider the budget price tag and include breakfast which is why it’s a recommended hotel in Ipoh.

Where to Book your Budget Hotel in Ipoh?

So where is the best place to make your Ipoh hotel booking? I personally prefer to use either Booking.com or Airbnb.

Booking.com

Usually, I prefer to use Booking.com as I find they not only offer a great range of the best hotels in Ipoh town but in most cases, you don’t need to pay anything upfront AND you can cancel if you change your mind or find a better deal elsewhere.

Plus, if you open an account and use them regularly, many of the hotels and resorts on booking.com offer a “genius” discount where you really can make some great savings.

I have provided links to Booking.com for the above Ipoh budget accommodation or you can click here.

Airbnb Ipoh

Airbnb is also another great place to go for cheap accommodation in Ipoh – particularly if you’re after something a little more spacious. Sometimes, even some of the hotels have privately owned rooms and advertise here for a much cheaper rate than you will get on sites like Booking.com.

The conditions about cancellation for bookings made through Airbnb depend on the individual listing, so be sure to check this out before making your booking. They usually are nowhere near as good as Booking.com though.

If you have never used Airbnb before, then click here to sign up and grab yourself $50 off your first booking. If you’ve used Airbnb before, but your partner hasn’t, sign them up so you can get this discount. Otherwise, click here to check out what’s available on Airbnb for Ipoh.
