Granite Belt Retreat and Brewery

Located just 5 km outside the main Stanthorpe city area, Granite Belt Retreat and Brewery is on a 30 acre property of natural bushland.  As the name suggests, there is also a 1000l microbrewery on site as well as a restaurant and bar.

There are 19 different stand-alone cabins at Granite Belt Retreat.  Each of these Stanthorpe cabins includes a large double bed as well as a set of bunk beds.  The cabins also feature a lovely fireplace, verandah, lounge area with TV, a small fridge, kettle, toaster and wifi.  These cabins really are one of the lovely places to stay Stanthorpe offers families.

One of the best parts about staying here at Granite Belt Retreat is they include breakfast with the cabins.  You’ll receive a breakfast hamper most mornings or on Sunday mornings you can enjoy a cooked breakfast in the restaurant.

The Granite Belt Retreat offers families excellent value for money.  These are among the cheapest accommodation included in this guide, yet these cabins Stanthorpe has are just gorgeous!  And breakfast is included too!  It’s also one of the pet friendly accommodation Stanthorpe has.

What’s not to love?

I don’t drink beer!  Now if it was a winery – I couldn’t fault it!

High Street Motel Stanthorpe


If you’re after one of the great value family motels in Stanthorpe, High Street is the perfect option.  Located just 2 km outside the city centre, High Street Motel is right by the golf course, markets and the Stanthorpe Heritage Museum and is the cheapest accommodation in this guide.

Families at High Street are best accommodated in a family room which has one large bed and two singles. Rooms also include a TV, wifi, air conditioning, dining area, microwave, tea and coffee making facilities and toaster.  On site, there is also a bar and the Aussie Beef Steakhouse. 

For a family suite in a motel, these rooms are very spacious, plus having a microwave and toaster allows families to prepare some basic meals.

What do we love?

The price – this is the cheapest family accommodation in this guide.

What’s not to love?

Having everything and everyone in the same room isn’t always ideal for families.

Summary

For families just after the cheapest accommodation they can find in Stanthorpe, which is also in a great central location, you can’t go wrong with High Street Motel.  With the ability to walk into town and prepare your own basic meals, this Stanthorpe motel accommodation is a great base for exploring all the region’s attractions.

Lynrose Place

For large families or families just after lots of space, Lynrose Place is a great place to consider.  This holiday home is located in a quiet residential street, surrounded by lovely manicured gardens and is just 2km from the city centre.

Lynrose Place has three bedrooms with each room featuring a large bed.  The home has a full kitchen, washing machine, two bathrooms, TV, fireplace and air conditioning. Families can even make use of the fire pit outside with the wood and kindling supplied.

What do we love?

A 3 bedroom self contained home is great for families.  Being able to prepare your meals, even wash clothes is a perfect way to save money on a family trip.

What’s not to love?

It would be great if one of the rooms had single beds so kids didn’t have to share.

Located just 750m from the centre of town, from Dillons Cottage, you can easily walk around the city.  Plus it’s just 300m from Kilpa Street Park, which has a great children’s playground by the scenic Quart Pot Creek.  

Dillons Cottage is a three bedroom, fully self contained home.  Two of the bedrooms feature a double bed, and the last room has two single, making this a great bedding configuration for families.  This cottage  Stanthorpe has, also features two fireplaces, fully equipped kitchen, laundry, TV and a lovely wide verandah.

What do we love?

The bedding configuration – so great to see a few single beds so kids don’t have to share.  

What’s not to love?

The inside is a little dated, but it has all the essentials for a great family stay.

Summary

For families after plenty of space, Dillons Cottage is a great place to consider.  This Stanthorpe cottage accommodation has plenty of space for large families and having cooking facilities means families can save even more money by preparing their own meals.

Briar Rose Cottages

Briar Rose Cottages are located just 2 km outside the city centre on a large residential block and are the cheapest fully self contained Stanthorpe cottages listed in this guide.

On site there are three cottages to choose from, including either a 2 or 3 bedroom cottage.  The two bedroom cottage can accommodate a family of 4 in a double and two single beds, while the three bedroom cottages can accommodate up to 6 people in two doubles and two singles.  

Each of the Stanthorpe holiday cottages comes with a fully equipped kitchen, laundry, dining area, fireplace, air conditioning, TV and a gorgeous porch for relaxing after a day of sightseeing.

What do we love?

The price – this is great value for self contained accommodation.

What’s not to love?

There are a few cottages close together on this property – so this mightn’t be ideal for families that like their privacy.

31 The Rocks

Just a short drive outside of the city centre,31 the Rocks offers accommodation in gorgeous modern villas on a stunning 10 acre bushland property.

While there is a range of villas on site, families are best accommodated in the two bedroom villa which features a double bed in each room.  There is also a sofa bed available, so the villa can sleep up to 6 people. This villa comes with a kitchenette, verandah with BBQ, lounge with fireplace and TV and air conditioning.  

On the 10 acre bushland property there are rock pools and it’s just a short walk to a nearby granite escarpment that provides spectacular views.

What do we love?

The setting.  These villas are surrounded by peaceful bushland, just perfect for a relaxing weekend away.

What’s not to love?

It’s really hard to fault this place, perhaps for some families, the fact that there is only a kitchenette might be a problem.

Summary

For families that want the perfect relaxing setting for their Stanthorpe getaway, the villas at 31 the Rocks are just perfect.  Located just a short drive from town and surrounded by quiet bushland, this is the ideal place to relax and unwind with the family.

Happy Pig Farm

If you’re looking for a great farmstay Stanthorpe offers families, consider staying at Happy Pig Farm.  Located just 5 minutes from the city centre, Happy Pig Farm is an operating farm with plenty of animals making it a great farm experience for the family.

Accommodation at Happy Pig Farm is provided in a two bedroom apartment which can accommodate up to 6 people.  Each of the rooms has an ensuite and a double bed, with one room also having and an additional single bed. There is also a sofa bed in the living room.

The apartment provides a kitchenette so families can prepare basic meals.  The kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. The apartment also has a fireplace, air conditioning, TV, BBQ and wifi.  Plus for families with little ones, they can even provide cots and highchairs.

The best part though is all the animals!  The kids will love meeting the pigs, sheep, cattle, horses, chickens and ducks as well as a tour around the farm to see how it operates.

What do we love?

Being a farmstay.  The kids will love staying on the farm and seeing it in action as well as getting to meet all the friendly farm animals.

What’s not to love?

The kitchenette is fairly basic with no stove or oven.

Summary

For families looking for Stanthorpe farm stay accommodation – definitely consider Happy Pig Farm.  This property comes highly rated by families who’ve stayed here and is a great place to not only experience farm life but also to explore the local attractions in Stanthorpe.

Honeysuckle Cottages Stanthorpe

Honeysuckle Cottages is just north of Stanthorpe (you’ll pass it on your way in to town), only 5 minutes out of the centre of town.  These cottages are spacious and semi self contained accommodation just perfect for families.

The two bedroom cottages are great for families, with the ability to sleep up to 6 people.  Each of the bedrooms provides a double bed and have lovely country decor. The cottage also features a sofa bed, a kitchenette with a fridge, stovetop, kettle, microwave and toaster, as well as a fireplace, washing machine, dining area and TV.

What do we love?

These cottages Stnahtorp has are located in lovely gardens and have a nice old school country vibe to them. 

What’s not to love?

A little bit pricey compared to other cottage accommodation Stanthorpe offers which is in this guide.

Summary

For families looking for centrally located, somewhat self contained accommodation, the Honeysuckle Cottages are a good one to consider.

R & R On the Ravine

R & R On the Ravine is located in Severnlea, just 15 minutes from the centre of Stanthorpe.  However, this accommodation is so gorgeous and offers such great value for the money that I had to include it in this guide.

Set on 113 acres of picturesque bushland, this accommodation is in the perfect setting.  There are two cabins to choose from; however families are best accommodated in the two bedroom cabin, with each having a double bed.  The cabin is self contained and features a fireplace, air conditioning, BBQ, patio and a TV.

The best part about this property is the setting.  Families will love relaxing in the afternoons on the patio, watching the sunset across the valley and spotting the local wildlife.

What do we love?

The price and setting.  These cabins are among the cheapest in this guide and all in such a picturesque setting.

What’s not to love?

Not a lot really!  Would be great if there was the option of two singles in the second bedroom so the kids didn’t have to share.

Summary

If you’re on a tight budget but don’t want to compromise on stunning accommodation in a gorgeous location, definitely consider  R & R On the Ravine – probably my pick out of all the places in this guide.

Accommodation Creek Cottages

Located in nearby wine country – Ballandean, while Accommodation Creek Cottages is 20 km outside of Stanthorpe, it’s another one that is too good not to include in this guide.  This property sits on the banks of the historic Accommodation Creek and provides views across the valley and out to the nearby National Parks.

On the property there are three cottages and suites, however families are best accommodated in one of the cottages which can sleep four or even six in one of the cottages.  One of the cottages has two bedrooms, while the other two have just one bedroom. All cottages include basic cooking facilities, TV, fireplace, verandah and a BBQ. 

While the property is about a 20 minute drive into the centre of Stanthorpe, it is surrounded by wineries, close to the National Parks and within easy reach to the other Stanthorpe attractions.

What do we love?

The gorgeous property.  What a location! Families will love relaxing on the verandah of these cottages after a day of sightseeing.  Plus it’s just a 15 minute walk to nearby Granite Ridge Wines.

What’s not to love?

This accommodation near Stanthorpe is a little far from the centre of town, so if you do plan on just spending time in town, it might be best to choose another place from his guide.

Summary

For lovely self contained cabin accommodation Stanthorpe has in a secluded picturesque spot, the Accommodation Creek Cottages are well worth considering.  Here you are in the heart of wine country and within easy reach to all the other attractions around Stanthorpe.
