One of the best Lombok hotels for families would have to be the Holiday Resort Lombok. The Holiday Resort Lombok is located in Mangsit Village on the islands west coast, a 5-minute drive out of Central Senggigi and is a great resort for a holiday in Lombok with kids.
The Holiday Resort Lombok was previously the Holiday Inn Resort Lombok, so don’t get confused like I kept getting, the resort is no longer part of the Holiday Inn chain.
The Holiday Resort Lombok is set among hundreds of coconut palms and gorgeous pink and white frangipani trees across 15 hectares. The grounds are spacious and have a very luxurious feel.
The property is located directly on Mangsit beach and on the other side of the property is the spectacular mountains thick with a tropical jungle.
The grounds of the Holiday Resort Lombok would have to be one of the most beautiful resorts I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. Just being there made me feel relaxed and transported into another world.
Apart from the resort, it was like being on the set of the America TV series Lost, with the beautiful beach, palm trees and thick tropical jungle.
Facilities / Activities
There are plenty of great facilities and activities at the Holiday Resort to keep you all busy on your holiday in Lombok with kids. Or perhaps your more like us, and will rarely move from the pool side.
No Lombok family holiday is complete without a fantastic pool area, and the Holiday Resort has one of the best on the island. The pool is a large free forming lagoon style pool. Whilst there is just the one pool, it is divided into a couple of sections.
Starting on the beachfront there is a shallow pool ideal for the kids. Next is the largest section which has various depths and is ideal for swimming. This section comes right around to meet the swim up pool by, ideal for cocktails in the pool, particularly at happy hour!
There is also a very large spa that is just off the swimming pool.
Surrounding the swimming pool are numerous sun loungers and bean bags. Some of the sun loungers and bean bags face the beach so you can enjoy both the pool and the beach at the same time.
The pool has giant floating bean bags to laze about on or for the kids to play with.
For us, our favourite past time at the Holiday Resort Lombok was to laze around the pool. You could easily spend a few days doing nothing here, but swimming and relaxing.

Since 1995 the Holiday Resort Lombok has raised turtles in the incubator from hatchling and then moves them to the saltwater Aquarium. The turtles are then cared for until they are big enough to be released into the ocean.
Turtle rangers then work with guests of the hotel to release the turtles into the ocean each day at 10 am and 4 pm. Another great activity for your Lombok family holiday.
We had the pleasure of releasing some turtles during our stay. It was super cool to see the tiny little turtles waddle down the beach and swim off into the ocean.
Kids Club / Playground
Guests between the age of 4-12 years of age can join in the Sea World’s Kids Club free of charge between the hours of 10am to 6pm daily.
There appears to be no set activities in the kids club, just toys, books, ride on toys, puzzles and computer games. Myla enjoyed being there though.
Just outside the kids club is a kids playground which includes swings, monkey bars and a climbing equipment.
It would be great to see the resort vamp the kids club up a bit with some set activities throughout the day that the kids could really look forward to. I was also disappointed to see that the kids club was not open all the time as advertised.
Regardless we saw plenty of kids in there during our stay and Myla always wanted to go there. The Holiday Resort Lombok could really make this a highlight of the resort.
Andy and I tried out the Mandalika Spa during our stay which is open daily from 9am to 11pm daily.
We had a couples massage which was 60 minutes long. The room is lovely with candles and soft music and the ladies there are very sweet.
I am pretty fussy with massages and I didn’t find it anything special, but I did love the firm face and head massage at the end. Andy on the other hand loved it and said it was one of the best massages he had ever had.
Blue Marlin Dive Centre is located at the hotel and offers diving courses from 1 day introductions through to PADI Instructor and beyond. They can also arrange daily diving trips with experienced PADI Dive instructors and snorkelling tours.
Each day the Holiday Resort Lombok has various free activities for the guests to join in such as group beach walks, yoga, group work outs, pony rides, volley ball and lessons in the Indonesian language. Check the activities board by the pool for the schedule during your stay.
There is also a ping pong table, giant chess game, gym and tennis court which guests can use free of charge.
Bicycles / Motorbikes
Guest can hire bicycles and motorbikes direct from the resort during their stay. We hired a motorbike one day and it cost 150,000 IRD (approximately $15 AUD) for 24 hours. You can hire motorbikes for only 50,000 IRD (approximately $5 AUD) in town, but you will need to include to cost of getting a cab to and from town as well.
The resort also arranges guided bike rides.
The Holiday Resort Lombok has 3 restaurants, 1 bar, 1 lounge as well as room service.
This restaurant is located around the pool and overlooking the Indian Ocean. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner each day between the hours of 12pm to 10pm.
There are plenty of little private spots where the staff at the Kayangan restaurant will set up a romantic dinner for two (contact the lobby in advance and arrange a babysitter for the kids). Prices start at 787,000 IRD (approximately $80 AUD) per couple for a 4 course meal.
We dined at Kayangan one night during our stay at the Holiday Resort Lombok. It was lovely sitting out by the beach and we were even serenaded by a local quartet. They even same some aussie songs for us. Myla loved it and danced for hours.
Gili Pool Bar
The Gili Pool Bar is open daily from 8 am to 11 pm and is located around the pool – as well as the swim up pool bar.
You can order your usual poolside items here like sandwiches, burgers and pizzas as well as Indonesian food. Prices range from 65,000 to 100,000 IRD (approximately $6.50 to $10 AUD). We ordered a pizza and club sandwich to share between the 3 of us – the meals are larger enough to share and delicious!!
The pool bar serves a great variety of cocktails, wine, spirits, juices and soft drinks. Happy hour is daily between 5pm to 7 pm where drinks are discounted by 50%. The bar staff are lovely and we should know – we were here quite regularly!
This is also the ideal spot to sit back on a bean bag or sun lounger and watch the sunset over the Indian Ocean, cocktail in hand of course!
Gecko Steak Bar
The Gecko Steak Bar is open daily from 3 pm to 10 pm and serves steaks and snacks, sandwiches.
Rinjani Restaurants is opened daily from 7 am to 11 pm serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant is located on the second floor, close to the lobby and has great views of the resorts grounds and beach.
A buffet breakfast is provided for guests each day at Rinjani Restaurant. The variety is vast and you can find all your usual breakfast menu items here such as eggs, cereals, fruits, and pastries. There is also a huge variety of Indonesian items.
Located next to the lobby, the Sasak Lounge is open daily from 7 am to 11 pm. The Sasak Lounge serves Cuban cigars, drinks and coffee.
The Mangsit Beach is a lovely beach located right in front of the Holiday Resort Lombok. The sand here is greyish in colour and whilst there is some shells and coral it is easy to walk along the beach barefoot.
The ocean is a beautiful greenish blue colour and perfect for splashing about in the shallows, however I probably would not venture out too far as the waves did appear to be a little rough and there are no life guards here. However we did speak to some other guests during our stay and they said they saw some fantastic marine life whilst snorkelling right from the beach.
Seems like a strange thing to mention, but when you are working remotely like us this is a must. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the resort grounds and rooms and I found it very reliable and fast for the majority of the time.
The Holiday Resort Lombok has a variety of different types of room for you to choose from. All rooms include cable TV, air conditioning, fridge, hairdryer, seating area, balcony and tea/coffee making facilities.
The 39 ocean view rooms are ideal for a small family as they can sleep 2 adults and 2 kids. They are located close to all the resorts facilities and are a good size at 32 sq. We stayed in an ocean view room and found it really convenient. We stayed on the second floor, where we had a great view of the ocean, however for a family I would recommend staying on the first floor where you have easy access straight from your room to the garden and pool.
The resort also has 14 beach bungalows which are like tiny apartments with a lounge, bedroom and outdoor bathroom over 76 sq. These rooms are further away from the resort’s facilities but a great if you wanting a little privacy and your own beachfront.
For families needing more room the 2 bedroom Mangsit Suites are ideal. There are 30 of these units measuring 134 sq. These rooms are located in the main building close to all the resorts facilities and include 2 bedrooms, dining area and full kitchen.. As for my advice in relation to the ocean view rooms, for a family I would recommend getting one of the suites on the ground floor so you have easy access to the garden and pool.
At the time of publishing this article the cheapest place to book your room was on booking.com with prices for 2 adults and 2 kids starting at $195 AUD including breakfast.
We came to the Holiday Resort Lombok from the Gili Islands and so arrived in Lombok at the Bangsal harbour. From here we negotiated with a taxi driver to take us to the Holiday Resort for 100,000 IRD (approximately $10 AUD). The ride took about 20 minutes.
If you are coming from the Lombok airport, the resort is about a 45-minute drive away and costs around 200,000 IRD (Approximately $20 AUD).
The Holiday Resort Lombok is a gorgeous resort to stay for a few days to explore Lombok.
The setting of the resort is just gorgeous and we all loved lounging by the pool and completely relaxing for a few days.
If you are looking for a resort style holiday that’s really affordable and family friendly than we highly recommend a stay at the Holiday Resort Lombok.
