Where to stay in Memphis with Family

The good thing about Memphis is that most of the attractions are within walking distance around the Downtown area.  While there are some attractions such as Graceland and the Memphis Zoo which aren’t in Downtown, I don’t recommend you choose one of the hotels in Memphis near Graceland or the Zoo, because then you’ll be far away from most of the things to do in Memphis.

So which is the best area to stay in Memphis, in the Downtown area?

Well, most people tend to want to stay close, or at least an easy walk away from Beale Street, as this is where many people head to at night.  Even if you don’t want to spend every evening on Beale Street, any of the Downtown Memphis hotels near Beale Street will put you in walking distance to a range of other great places to eat, tourist attractions and close to a trolley stop if you don’t feel like walking.

Apart from that, it probably really doesn’t matter where you stay in Downtown Memphis.  You can easily walk from one end of town to the other.  So if budget is your priority, just find one of the cheap Memphis hotels near Beale Street that meet your needs.

Best Place to Stay in Memphis with Kids

After hours of research and after spending some time exploring the Downtown area myself, I’ve shortlisted 10 of the best family friendly hotels in Memphis for you to consider.  All are among the best Memphis hotels Downtown offers and are in a good location in terms of getting to all the popular tourist attractions.

Ok, let’s get into it and find you some where to stay in Memphis with kids.

Hyatt Centric Beale Street Memphis

In our view, one of the best Memphis family friendly hotels is the Hyatt Centric.  This is one of the hotels in Memphis near Beale Street, so it’s in the perfect position for exploring all the attractions around Downtown.  It’s just a 5 minute walk to the heart of the Beale Street Entertainment District, but even attractions further away, such as the National Civil Rights Museum, is just a 12 minute walk.

The standard queen rooms at the Hyatt are super spacious and come with two large double beds.  For larger families or those who like their privacy, you can also get interconnecting rooms.  All of the rooms come with a large bathroom, with a massive shower, coffee and tea making facilities, air conditioning and a flat screen TV.  Rooms also have fantastic views of the Mississippi River or the Memphis city skyline.

The kids will absolutely love the outdoor swimming pool while parents will love lazing in the private cabanas.  The hotel also features a gym, CIMAS restaurant and cafe and a rooftop bar with amazing views of the city and Mississippi River.

The Hyatt Centric was the hotel we stayed at while exploring Memphis and the location was absolutely perfect.

What’s to love?

Amenities – this is one of the Memphis Beale Street hotels with it all – expansive outdoor swimming pool, restaurant, gym, rooftop bar and it’s right on Beale Street – what more could you want?

What’s not to love?

All these amenities and prime location come at a cost, and so it’s no surprise that the Hyatt Centric is one of the most expensive hotels in this guide.

Summary

For families after good hotels in Memphis, where there are plenty of great amenities such as a pool to chill out in at the end of the day, you really can’t go past the Hyatt Centric.  It’s a great pick if you’re looking for a centrally located hotel and one of the Beale Street Memphis hotels for families.

Hampton Inn & Suites

If the Hyatt Centric wasn’t close enough to Beale Street, the Hampton Inn & Suites is literally a two minute walk to the centre of all the action – without a doubt one of the best hotels Memphis Beale Street offers families.  You’re also super close to FedExForum and AutoZone Park, so perfect for those families catching a game while in town.

Despite being one of the cheap motels in Memphis, this hotel comes with some great amenities.  To start with, you get a free hot breakfast each morning, as well as an indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre.

Family rooms come with two queen beds, with the option of having interconnecting rooms for larger families.  All rooms come with a coffee maker, flat screen TV and air conditioning.

From the Hampton Inn & Suites, you can walk to everything the Downtown area has to offer and your accommodation will not cost you a small fortune either – this is an excellent option for families after top cheap Downtown Memphis hotels.

What’s to love?

The value for money is just extraordinary at the Hampton Inn & Suites – prime location, free breakfast and a swimming pool!  For Memphis hotels on Beale Street, it’s incredible.

What’s not to love?

Not a lot really!  Although given it has an indoor pool, it would be great if it was heated so it could be used year round.

Summary

For families after Memphis hotels – cheap options, you can’t go past the Hampton Inn and Suites.  You don’t have to compromise on anything with this hotel – it’s certainly one of the top hotels Memphis Downtown area offers families on a budget.

What’s to love?

Lots! Price. Free parking. Free breakfast.

What’s not to love?

This is one of the furthest hotels from Beale Street in this guide, while still only a 12 minute walk, it may be too long for those with younger children.

Summary

For family accommodation that is well priced and inclusions to help stretch the budget, La Quinta is definitely one of the Memphis downtown hotels to check out. While it is a little further afield from Beale Street, there is free parking to compensate for this.

Holiday Inn

If you’re looking for Memphis downtown hotels near Beale Street that are well priced, then the Holiday Inn is worth checking out. At around a 6 minute walk to Beale Street and one of the cheapest hotels in this guide, the Holiday Inn is a great option for families.

Holiday Inn rooms are modern and can sleep up to four people in two large beds. There is a mini fridge and tea/coffee facilities in the room. And all guests are provided with free WiFi.

There is a full service restaurant onsite offering breakfast, lunch and dinner along with room service. It is American cuisine with a southern flavour. This is all super convenient if you’ve been out sightseeing and just want to relax at the end of the day back at the hotel and have a meal. What’s not to love?

There aren’t really any added inclusions, i.e., no free breakfast and no free parking.

Summary

For Memphis hotels – downtown near Beale Street, you can’t go past the Holiday Inn. Great location and price – just keep in mind you’ll be putting your hand in your pocket for extras such as breakfast and parking.

MOXY Memphis Downtown

For one of the funkiest hotels in the Memphis area, you can’t go past the MOXY. They call themselves southern hospitality with style, with the hotel inspired by the quintessential southern porch. This edgy hotel is around a 12 minute walk to Beale Street, and while not super far, it is one of the furthest in this guide.

The modern rooms come with two large beds accommodating up to four people. Style-wise, these are some pretty cool rooms, with leather bed heads, a moody colour scheme, a timber feature wall with peg storage, plush drapes and retro pillows.

While there are no in-room cooking amenities, you can use the microwave at the bar. But what the MOXY lacks in cooking amenities, it makes up for in entertainment – with multiple streaming services available, including Netflix, Hulu or cast your own preference with Chromecast available.

Besides digital entertainment, the porch on Main Street is where the real-life entertainment is at. With two fire pits, a bocce ball court, ping pong and plenty of space to chill out. And if you want to grab something to eat or drink, the onsite bar and restaurant have you covered. Rounding out the hotel’s facilities, there is an onsite gym and parking (extra).

What’s to love?

The pure vibe of this hotel! If you’re after something a little unique for your stay in Memphis, the MOXY is it. It is also part of the Marriott group, so you know you’re staying somewhere with a good brand.

What’s not to love?

Being a mid-range priced hotel, lacking even tea/coffee facilities in the room is a bit of a bummer, along with being one of the further properties from Beale Street in this guide.

Summary

For a cool Memphis experience, the MOXY is the place to be. Whilst a little further from the centre of town, if you like to come back to your hotel in the evening and still feel amongst all the action, the MOXY and its southern style porch could be the place for you.

The Rambler Hotel

The Rambler Hotel is a great alternative for families wanting to have a home away from home experience while in Memphis.  This property offers families apartments complete with a full kitchen and laundry facilities, which is perfect for those having an extended stay in Memphis or for those families wanting to save a little cash by preparing some of their own meals.

Location wise, the Rambler isn’t as centrally located as some of the other hotels in this guide.  However, it’s in the trendy South Main Arts District and from here the downtown attractions are still within walking distance.  Alternatively, there’s a trolley stop right in front of the property – this takes you pretty much everywhere in the Downtown area.

Family apartments come either in a one or two bedroom configuration.  Each of the bedrooms has a double bed, while there is a sofa bed in the living area.  Apartments feature fully equipped kitchens, a dining area, laundry facilities, and air conditioning.  The Rambler also features a lovely outdoor swimming pool.

What’s to love?

Having an apartment with plenty of space – not to mention a fully equipped kitchen to prepare meals and your own laundry to catch up on the washing.  This is fabulous for families wanting a home away from home.

What’s not to love?

It’s not as centrally located as many other hotels in this guide.  Although you can still walk to all the Downtown attractions, the walk is a little longer.  However, the trolley stop right outside means you can get wherever you need to go with ease.

Summary

The Rambler Hotel is a gorgeous place for families to stay.  The building has been beautifully renovated and each of the apartments are modern and spacious.  If you don’t mind being a little further from the central downtown area, this is an excellent property for families.

DoubleTree by Hilton

DoubleTree by Hilton is located directly across the road from AutoZone Baseball Park, home to the Memphis Redbirds baseball team and the Memphis 901 FC – so if you’re here for sport, this is the place to be. Plus, if you’re also after Memphis hotels near Beale St you’re within walking distance – around a 7 minute stroll.

Rooms are the usual clean and corporate style for the Hilton, with families of four accommodated in two large beds. For larger families, there are interconnecting rooms available. In room amenities include tea/coffee facilities and free WiFi.

Onsite there is a gym, parking (extra) and an all-in-one bar/groceries/restaurant set up. It’s called the ‘King & Union Bar Grocery’ and it’s located just off the lobby. Here you can enjoy authentic Southern classic bites, local Memphis brews and curated cocktails. The grocery section is where you can pick up gourmet snacks and gifts.

What’s to love?

If you’re here for sport you can’t get much closer to the stadium than staying at the DoubleTree by Hilton.

What’s not to love?

Not much. Additional in-room amenities such as a microwave and fridge would be nice.

Summary

For a mid-range priced hotel in a convenient location, the DoubleTree by Hilton is worth considering. While it doesn’t have loads of onsite amenities, if you’re wondering where to stay in Memphis near Beale Street and after a good quality hotel, this could be it.

Hilton Garden Inn

Hilton Garden Inn is next door to the DoubleTree by Hilton (detailed above). So you will get all the same benefits of a pretty good location – being one of the hotels in Memphis near Beale St, along with being directly across the road from the AutoZone Baseball Park. However, the Hilton Garden Inn has additional family-friendly amenities on site.

First of all, the Hilton Garden Inn rooms are quite spacious, allowing the family to spread out a bit more. Families of four are accommodated in two large beds, and interconnecting rooms are available for those with bigger broods.

What sets this Hilton apart is the additional in-room amenities, including a fridge and microwave, which just makes simple meal prep and storage so much easier with kids. There is also a Keurig coffee maker for your caffeine hit and free WiFi.

The Hilton Garden Inn is also one of the downtown Memphis hotels with indoor pool, perfect for the whole family to have a splash after a day’s sightseeing. Other great facilities include a restaurant serving daily breakfast and a bar serving afternoon/evening small bites and beverages.

What’s to love?

The great family friendly in-room amenities and its one of the Memphis hotels close to Beale St.

What’s not to love?

It’s all pretty good at the Hilton Garden Inn. If breakfast and parking were included, that would be a nice bonus.

Summary

There aren’t loads of Memphis hotels with indoor pools, so if you can find one – like the Hilton Garden Inn, it gives you an extra activity for the family to enjoy.

Residence Inn

If you love Memphis’ history, then one of the hotels that may be of interest to you is the Residence Inn. This historic hotel originally opened in 1930 and still maintains many original art deco architectural features.

What isn’t historical though, is the in-room kitchen – perfect when travelling with families. The full size kitchen has a fridge, stovetop, microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker. And if you need groceries to stock the fridge, you can use the complimentary grocery shopping service; how great is that!

Studios can sleep families of four in a large bed and sofa bed, or you can upgrade to a two-bedroom suite for additional space. And all guests receive free WiFi.

While you have the full kitchen to prepare meals, if you feel like a snack or barista made coffee, there is a Starbucks onsite adjacent to the elegant hearth room with fireplace. Other onsite facilities include a laundry, gym and bar.

There is parking onsite at a charge. However, you may not need a car as the Residence Inn is approx a 7 minute walk to downtown or the Main Street Trolley is located directly out the front. The vintage trolley cars will transport you not only back in time but to the loads of shops, restaurants and sightseeing that Memphis has to offer.

What’s to love?

The full size kitchen makes it so much easier to prepare meals when travelling with a family – not only saving money, but saving time searching for somewhere suitable to eat.

What’s not to love?

Sofas can get a bit uncomfortable to sleep on. And the price of this hotel is one of the more expensive in this guide.

Summary

Memphis hotels close to Beale Street don’t get more convenient than the Residence Inn with its full size kitchen and trolley.

Hotel Napoleon

Hotel Napoleon can be found in the historic Winchester building, combining classic architecture from the early 1900s with a contemporary interior. Located near the Hilton’s (details in this guide), this is one of the hotels in Memphis close to Beale Street, while also being almost next door to the AutoZone Baseball Park.

Boutique rooms are furnished with contemporary pieces and are designed with high ceilings, bay windows, exposed brick and original crown moulding. Families of four are accommodated in two large beds with rooms including a fridge and coffee machine. And all guests are provided with free WiFi.

The Luna Restaurant and Bar onsite provides food, coffee and cocktails. Open for breakfast and dinner with traditional American cuisine; this is great for families to either start or finish their day, or both.

What’s to love?

Price – one of the cheaper properties in this guide.

What’s not to love?

Not a lot; this is a good all round hotel – if it were a smidge closer to Beale Street, that would be great.

Summary

Well-priced accommodation. Tick. Good location. Tick. Decent amenities. Tick. There’s not much to fault at the Hotel Napoleon. If parking and breakfast were included, that would be a nice bonus!
